Journalism is the sworn enemy of any totalitarian society

When Amer Bakhtiyar suggested this topic to me, it seemed very interesting to me because it is something I have been reading about all my life. Then, in the next phase of thinking, I came to the conclusion that this could be the shortest lecture in the world. In totalitarian systems, it is almost impossible to engage in journalism because journalism is expelled, arrested or killed. In dictatorships, the situation is somewhat less bad, but it is still dramatic. As a Belarusian journalist recently said, journalists in Belarus have two choices: either prison or exile.
